I’ve been traveling hither and yon recently, including to Arkansas to see and photograph the total solar eclipse. I had a real clear view of it through my cameras so was surprised afterwards to see some beautiful online photos of the sun and its corona that looked nothing at all like what I’d seen. After an initial bout of envy (“I wish I could take photos like that”), I realized they were almost certainly not actual photos but AI. I subsequently asked Midjourney for nine views of the solar eclipse and voilà! it came up with some very similar, very fabulous “photos.” My envy vanished.
One thing led to another and I began asking for nine different phases of the moon along with watch faces.1 I didn’t get exactly what I’d imagined of course, but I liked some of the results regardless.
I abandoned the moon to take the watch faces idea even further. As you can see (both above and below), Midjourney is a bit challenged with where various numbers belong on watches — and even what those numbers should look like in the first place.
Some of you might remember there was a point last year when I absolutely could not stop making owls. I eventually got over that, at least mostly; I only occasionally think of them these days. Nonetheless, for some reason it began to seem like a very good idea to add owls into my watch-face grids.
I wasn’t sure which of the owl images I liked best, so I included two different versions.
I’d be curious to know if you have a preference and, if so, which it is.
I have no idea how or why the watch face idea entered my mind.
I like the watch face collection without the owl. The owl is lovely but distracts from the watch faces because of the intense eyes.
