I’ve noticed previously that Midjourney has trouble creating images with prompts that include words or phrases that aren’t widely known. So when I asked for some alebrijes at a party,1 I wasn’t surprised that the results weren’t exactly “authentic.”
They were colorful, cute, and amusing, so I thought I’d share a few. The image below is a zoomed-out version of the one above. I’m not sure which I prefer.
It became very clear that Midjourney assumes parties will involve alcoholic beverages. Even, apparently, some that don’t taste all that good to imaginary creatures.
I backed off from the party idea for a while and somehow landed in Sesame Street instead (even though I never used it in a prompt).
The image below is my favorite. Why Midjourney decided to make these creatures put their hands on their hips is beyond me, but I love the way they turned out — a bit like superheroes supercritters laying down the law.
After a while, I wondered what would happen if alebrijes had been at the last supper. Hmmm … not sure that worked.
But maybe trolls could have been at the last supper? Um, no, not them either.
Perhaps Sesame Street characters? Nope.
I gave up on the last supper and created a young alebrije family instead.
I would describe alebrijes as colorful and fantastical Mexican folk art critters. You can learn more here (and also see what real alebrijes look like).
Funny images!
