I got interested a few years back in a genre of books called cozies (short for cozy mysteries). Despite the fact that someone has invariably been murdered in a cozy, there are neither heart-pounding moments nor gore, and the usually amateur protagonist always solves the crime. I particularly like the sub-genre featuring witches.
The most recent witch cozy I read, The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches, actually used the word witchcore. Since in my mind, any word ending in -core is associated with AI, I immediately had to plug it into Midjourney to see what would happen. These are a couple of the results.
As I got more and more into a Halloween frame of mind, I created some graveyards as well.
I used the word Halloweencore in my prompts, which likely accounts for the generous use of orange in most of the images.
The image below is my favorite, despite the fact that I have no idea what all the orange-y things between tombstones are. Flowers? Plants? Tiny fires?
It wasn’t until I began writing this post that it occurred to me to find out if graveyardcore and cemeterycore are words other folks use. Turns out they are. I can hardly wait to see what comes next — stay tuned.
